The Dream

A couple of years ago, I had one of the most intense dreams of my life.

In the dream, I was being held hostage with a gun to my head.  I knew it was the end for me.  Just as suddenly, I was being filled with what I would call 3-Dimensional agape love from heaven.  It was one of the most joyous moments of my life, God’s love flowing through me at this level.

Immediately I felt deep, agape love for my captor.  I began to talk to him.  I asked him what his name was, where he was from, about his family, etc.  He was disarmed by my lack of fear.  The end of the dream was that I was rescued.  I woke up and wept for 3 days and asked God to unpack this dream for me.  Here’s what I heard:

‘Just as I have a plan for you, Meg, so does the enemy.  The enemy will often put fear in front of your destiny.  So when you see fear, get excited!  Prayerfully walk toward it, not around it.  Walking around it will mean you bypass part of your destiny and lengthen your trip to get to your destiny.’

So when I see something that makes me afraid, I am learning to get excited by it!  That it’s a ‘marker on the trail’, a clue, direction, in my walk with God.  I John 3:8 says that Jesus came to destroy the works of the enemy.  That means, as his disciples, that we are to do the same in our lives.  Fear is a primary enemy.

Adam and Eve were put in the garden, by the plan of God, right next to the enemy.  God wanted Adam and Eve to obey and overcome the temptation from Satan.  He wants you and I to overcome whatever work of darkness we happen to be near.  Not to escape or run from it.  Rather, we are to look fear square in the eye and tell it to go.  To walk toward it with a smile that can only be known by someone walking as a servant to the King of Kings who already paid for the victory on the cross.  That kingdom is supposed to be afraid of us, and not us afraid of it!

2 Timothy 1:7 tell us God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind.  So if you’re walking around with fear, give it back!

Take a moment and make a list of your fears.  Like a real list.  Start thanking God that through Him, we can overcome anything.

We live in a scary world with scary situations and people.  God knows that.  If we know who we are in Him, we will not walk around the fear, but counting it all joy, walk toward it and through to the other side.
